From Zero to 20k Sessions in 4 Months
Our Directioneer was asked to develop a brand new blog structure and strategy in order to improve Itch Pet's ability to rank for both informational and transactional search terms.
This impressive graph shows organic clicks and impressions to the blog since launch at the start of October 2023. In just 4 months the blog has attracted 20,000 sessions and a host of number 1 rankings. Not bad eh? Read on to find out how we did it.
A Strategy Focussed on Structure & Demand
Itch Pet have products that can really help pet owners deal with all sorts of nasty critters but their website relied solely on people searching for flea, tick and worming treatment. This is fine but relies on strong rankings for those very competitive terms and they weren't performing where they needed to be.

We devised a blog structure that mimicked both their product range and the types of problems and questions users were having related to these products. This clear structure gave us a great foundation to begin covering all the main topics in a contextual and well linked way (which Google LOVES).

We created an initial batch of content, covering all the main topics and launched the blog. Each month after that we launched another bunch of articles, all focussed around answering user questions in relation to fleas, ticks and worming.

Fast forward to January and almost 100 articles and the performance speaks for itself!
Why this works
We took a structured approach to content and focussed on being as helpful as possible to our users. Google recognised this and rewarded us with rankings.
Why Blog Structure & Linking is Vital to this Strategy
The reason this content worked so quickly is because we not only created great content but we also made it really obvious to Google that we are an expert authority on the subject. We did this through blog categorisation and internal linking.

Every blog category links nicely to other relevant categories and each article links to other relevant articles, categories and products. This creates a wonderful web of internal links which Google can regularly crawl and understand the semantic relationship between our pieces of content.

This is why we gained results so quickly.

This blog content has also driven wider value and authority as the rankings for the key product terms mentioned above have also started to improve in rankings, moving into traffic driving positions. The overall benefit of this project to the client is more awareness through the blog traffic and greater sales through both this traffic and the improve product rankings. A win win win in our book.
We're Not Done Yet.
As we move into peak flea season, we're expanding our content and looking at further ways to grow awareness for ItchPet through the organic channel.
